I know these may not be the best examples to use, but they are the ones that best fit what I am trying to say. Having said that, there are two movies that most of us, if not all of us, are familiar with: “Casper”, a 1995 American Supernatural film by Brad Silberling, and the other one is “No Retreat, No Surrender”, a 1985 martial arts film by Corey Yuen. As crazy as it sounds, I think these two movies are the perfect examples of what it means to be aware of another presence in a room, while others may not be able to see or feel that presence, yet its impact is undeniable. The individuals who play the roles of Casper and Bruce Lee appear as “ghosts,” and in each movie, only one individual can see and hear the ghost; others cannot.
Jesus is alive and risen from the dead, and He is King of kings. He doesn’t appear to us in the physical form like He did when He appeared to His disciples after His resurrection. However, Jesus always stays with His people, and He enters rooms with them. In times of trouble, He is closer than a brother.
When Jesus becomes your personal Lord and Savior, you become like that young girl in the Casper movie who is walking around and entering rooms with a friend that nobody else can see but her. And you are like the guy in the No Retreat, No Surrender movie who has a trainer that nobody else can see except him, who shows him what to do and what not to do. This sounds weird, right? But that’s the truth.
When Jesus says, He will never leave us nor forsake us, He means what He says. This also indicates that you and I need to be conscious of Him being with us daily. As you walk and develop a closer relationship with Jesus, you’ll start noticing a few things that may seem crazy to others, but not to you, because you will have too much evidence to doubt His presence with you and in you.
When Jesus steps into a room, you’ll notice that the atmosphere of the room changes. We must remember that the moment we start walking wholeheartedly with Jesus, He is the one who orders our steps, which means that He also oversees the rooms that we enter. The doors He chooses to open, no one can shut; and the one He shuts, no one can open. God will not only go ahead of us, but He will also go with us in the rooms He wants us to be in. Therefore, the atmosphere cannot remain the same.
The first thing that will happen when Jesus steps in is that any darkness in the room will be exposed, and any hidden and dormant demons will begin to manifest. It may be very subtle at first, but you can never go wrong with Jesus. In Luke 4:35, Jesus drove out an impure spirit from a man possessed by a demon. As soon as the demon saw Jesus arrive at the synagogue, the demon cried out, “Go away! What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are, the Holy One of God,” and Jesus replied to the demon sternly, “Be quiet! Come out of him.” (Luke 4:34-35).
I’m sure many didn’t even know what was going on and who Jesus is, but the demon did. And as soon as Jesus entered the room, the demon trembled because Light shone ever so brightly; therefore, he automatically knew he was exposed.
Someone may wonder, How does this apply to me? because I’m walking with Jesus, but I don’t think the Spirit of God exposes any demons when I enter a room.
Well, Jesus might have been using you to expose many demons without you even realizing it. One trap we must avoid when walking with God is expecting God to act the same way all the time and every time. For many of us, the way God uses us to expose demons is through rejection. Have you ever walked into a room where, no matter what you do or how you try to blend in, people still gang up on you to make you feel you are not welcome in the room? It is as if they are saying to you, ‘Go away.’ The same situation can happen with your friends, family members, coworkers, and even strangers. The reason is that each time they see you, they see Jesus. That’s why in John 15:18-19, Jesus said, “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated Me first. If you belong to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world. That is why the world hates you.”
When you walk with Jesus, you really don’t need to worry about your enemies, because the Spirit of the Lord will make sure your enemies tell on themselves one way or another. After all, light and darkness cannot be on one accord. The craziest thing is, you don’t even have to do a thing other than stay on your knees because Jesus Himself will handle them, and He will also let you know what is going on. Oh, what a friend we have in Jesus indeed!
The other thing that happens when Jesus steps into a room with you is that favor follows you. When you align yourself with God’s will for your life, it’s as if a veil has been removed, and you now have a new identity in Him. That doesn’t mean your life will be perfect and without difficulties, but you will be able to see God’s favor in your life vividly. Doors that have been shut for centuries will start to open, and the harmful ones will close, and you’ll experience favor with God and favor with men. The Spirit who lives in you will dismantle and melt every iron gate before you.
And lastly, when Jesus enters a room, you now have authority and protection through Him. The authority you have is not the one that gives you the sense that you are better than everyone else or the green light to boss everybody around. That’s not the type of authority I’m talking about here. This kind of authority you’ll have is in Jesus, meaning the enemy will not know what to do with you because nothing he does against you will prosper. You have now become unstoppable. Your relationship with Jesus has now become a covenant, similar to the kind of relationship Abraham and Moses had with Him. At this point, your life is totally not your own. You can no longer say, do, and act like you used to, and God is fully responsible for your life, your family, and your protection; therefore, there is a peace that comes with knowing that God oversees your whole life. No wonder Jesus said in Matthew 28:18, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me”, which means when you have Jesus on your side, you also have full authority and full protection through Him.
When Jesus walks with you wherever you go, each time you show up in a room, the enemy(s) will be in rage. However, God will always render him/them powerless because nothing and no one can stand against God. You will also experience favor wherever you go because “the king’s heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord; He directs it wherever He chooses” (Proverbs 21:1).
Have confidence in the authority and protection you have in Jesus. He’s got your back!
