COMMON SENSE

Lesson Learned 1

We live in a world where rationality has become more uncommon, and irrationality has become more common. While it’s easy to criticize others for their lack of common sense, I think the best approach would be to examine the root cause of an absence of discernment or a lack thereof. I must admit to you that it took me a great while to realize that I’ve been living my life for years with no common sense, and the funny thing is I thought I was doing fine all along.

Oh! And how can I ever forget the day when I heard the Lord saying in my spirit: “Your spiritual battles, I’m handling them, but common sense is what I am expecting from you because I gave you a brain.” This revelation was straight to the point; I strongly felt the conviction of the Holy Spirit that day, but it was just what I needed to wake up from a deep sleep.

So here I was, focusing so much on the distractions around me and the demonic attacks while I was neglecting the use of the gift of discernment. I’m not saying we should act as if the devil doesn’t exist, but we cannot ignore the need for discernment in our daily lives. It is one of the gifts that God is willing to give to whoever asks Him freely.

Discernment keeps us from teaming up with the devil. The truth of the matter is praying for protection against demonic forces will be irrelevant to us if we can’t even discern when we are dealing with them in the first place.

You probably already know that the greatest battle we must fight here on earth is the battle of the mind. So, have you ever wondered why is the devil so desperate to gain access and control over your mind?

let’s find out! But first, Let’s see what common sense means.

Common sense is “the ability to see things for what they truly are. Also, it is the ability to think, behave reasonably, and make good decisions.” So based on the definitions above, we can see why the devil wants to keep us in our heads 24/7. The thing is, if I’m unable to see things for what they truly are and if I’m unable to think properly to make good decisions, then how will I be able to recognize deceptions?

Hence, God wants us to free ourselves from noises and distractions to receive His inner peace as we abide in His presence. He is not trying to make our lives miserable, but He is trying to give us access to the things we need and can only get from Him, such as understanding, wisdom, and clarity.

The enemy uses tactics to interfere with our common sense. He loves to block our sight, and he doesn’t even have to assign demons to get the job done. When we are not spiritually discerned, we are more prone to partner with the enemy against ourselves and our loved ones. He entices us into detrimental habits, which lead to destroying our homes, businesses, health, significant friendships, partnerships, etc.

Satan doesn’t care about us; he doesn’t deal with the consequences of our actions, but we do.  His mission is to kill, still, and destroy; he is the father of deception, so he is good at it. It takes a more powerful Source to help us recognize his tricks.

Another tactic that Satan uses is to make us avoid self-evaluation which requires self-awareness. Self-evaluation is like taking a self-inventory. When we self-evaluate, we recognize our humanity and allow ourselves to become better people. There is no shame in evaluating oneself because it is a sign of strength.

I think we are living in a time where self-reflection is crucial. By spending some ‘God and me time’, we can receive God’s peace, think better, see things for what they truly are, repent, make good decisions, learn how to love, and see ourselves/others properly.

We desperately need Jesus and His wisdom. By asking God to trade our thoughts and ways for the mind and character of Christ, we can expect Him to answer our prayers because God will never despise a broken and contrite heart.

SCRIPTURES

“This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says: In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength, but you would have none of it.” Isaiah 30:15

“Yes, if you cry out for discernment, and lift your voice for understanding, if you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures; then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.” Proverbs 2:3-6
