Have you ever had to wait for a phone call or an answer for something so much needed? The longer you wait for it, the more impatient you get. Trusting God while waiting is very difficult because it challenges us to replace our impatience with trust. There are three things that I would like to share that can help when trusting God in the waiting season.
The first one is to acknowledge God in all our ways, which means to not only talk to Him continually about our plans but also to find out what His thoughts are for us. It’s like having a best friend and you are excited and unafraid to talk to him about anything and everything. So, it is the same thing with God. When we speak to God, sometimes it feels like He is just not listening or not seeing our tears. At times we even wonder if our prayers have reached Him. The reality is God is always listening to every word we say, He’s seen every tear we’ve cried and understands our sufferings. I cannot count how many prayers of many years ago that God has answered and it’s when He answered them, I realize that He heard me that day when I prayed. So, it will not always feel as if God is listening to you when you pray but talk to Him anyway.
The second one is to not lean on our strength and understanding because doing so causes us to resist God, and that’s when we get frustrated. We tend to overwork, manipulate, and try to figure things out on our own to make things work the way we think things should. But what about when God asks us to be still in certain situations? That’s when it feels like we are breaking down because we have no control over the outcome.
The third one is to keep in mind that two kingdoms are fighting. Let’s not forget that our help comes from God’s kingdom which is not from this earth. And when we pray, the Holy Spirit wants us to wait on Him. We also have Daniel’s story as an example where He prayed to the Lord but had to wait for three weeks to get an answer because the angel who had his answer was held captive (Daniel 10: 10-14). So, it is important to wait on the Holy Spirit to allow Him to orchestrate things in our favor because He might need to get us ready for the answer or He might need to get the person who He wants to use as the answer ready, He might also need to disarm some demons and get rid of certain people or things in our lives before we can see the full manifestation of the things that we’ve prayed for. And while He is working it out on His end, He wants us to trust, rest, wait, and thank Him in advance. Too often we make hasty decisions that we regret later just because we couldn’t patiently wait on the Lord and trust that He knows what He is doing. And remember that nothing that comes our way, no interference that presents itself before us, and no overwhelming situation can intimidate God because Heaven and Earth are His.
Trusting God in the waiting season, especially during a storm can make you wonder if God truly loves you like He says He does because it feels like you are in the middle of an ocean by yourself. However, God is in the storm with you. And the reason why you are not drowning is because He is carrying you. In such instances, you need to communicate with Him more, lean more on His strength, and ask Him to show you what is truly happening in the spirit realm. And once He reveals Himself in the storm, He will empower you so much that you will discover that you can still pray, clap, dance, praise, shout, laugh, worship, and serve others while waiting.
