HOW TO MAKE PEACE WITH GOD

We often think making peace with God is when one receives baptism, although it is true, this is not the only time we need to make peace with Him. Making peace with someone means actively resolving conflict or disagreement with that person, which means that action is required to end the conflict. I have realized that we’ll need to make peace with the Lord as we walk with Him. God’s thoughts and ways are different from ours and at times, we will often find ourselves wrestling with His ways, His thoughts, or what He says. Can one disagree with God? There are several instances in the Bible where the servants of God had to debate with God concerning some things. For example, when God called Moses to duty, it was difficult for him to agree with God because he couldn’t see what God saw, Moses wanted God to deliver the people but had no idea how God would do it; and so did Gideon, Jeremiah, and others. Therefore, to make peace with God some things need to be considered.

One of the things we need to do is to be at peace with Him. To be at peace means to be in a state of calmness and acceptance regarding something; it describes a state of tranquility. We often say that Jesus is our Lord and Savior, but we realize that He is usually more of a Savior to us than our Lord because we have a hard time accepting that He oversees how our lives should run and often, we are not at peace with that. To be at peace with the Lord also has to do with being one with the way He sees us and pride is usually what will prevent us from being one with Him. The Bible says in Romans 10: 9 “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”

To make things right with God, we must be willing to take action, we must be willing to let go of all idols that He will ask us to get rid of. When we come before the Lord it is like coming before the most perfect magnifying glass because He can see everything, even the smallest details that we may not even be aware of. Also, coming before the Lord is like someone who goes to the doctor, and after the examination, he tells the patient that he saw something abnormal. When the doctor gives the patient the report, the patient may not even know that something abnormal was there because he may not feel any symptoms. So, it is the same concept with God He can see what we cannot see long before we can feel any symptoms. Therefore, at times, the Lord will ask us to get rid of certain idols which can be people, places, things, and ungodly behaviors; that’s why it is wise not to get too attached to anything in this life. After all, God can ask us for anything at any time because everything belongs to Him. For example, it is difficult to get rid of certain pieces of furniture when moving to a new house and that’s why it often feels strange when we move in because some of the old pieces of furniture that we were so familiar with are no longer there; they had to be replaced. Therefore, we need to adjust to the new pieces of furniture in the new house.

To make peace with God is to end whatever conflict or disagreement we may have about what God says and wants to do in our lives. It is not always easy to accept God’s will because His thoughts are always beyond our understanding. And it will be pointless to walk and work with someone you disagree with because when one wants to go to the left, the other wants to go to the right, which will delay the destination. The Bible says in Amos 3:3 “Can two walk together unless they are agreed?” so we must understand that Jesus is also Lord and knows what is best for our lives. He knows the way because He is the way. In John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
