IT IS MORE ABOUT WHO’S BLESSING THE FOOD THAN IT IS ABOUT ITS QUALITY

Among all the other uncertain things we must deal with, I cannot believe the food industry is one of them. It has become one of the most panicky and shaky topics. Sugar and high levels of sodium are in almost everything. I wonder if one day we may end up seeing powdered sugar lettuce at the supermarkets. Some say to follow this or that diet, some say go to this or that store and others say buy this or that food product. We just don’t know what to do, what to think, and what to eat with peace of mind. We don’t even know if we should swallow or chew. I have understood that whenever something has become out of control, it is a sign of the need for a higher source. This higher Source is none other than the Lord, God Almighty. Any other sources are limited, and God is the only true Source.

Even though the world has evolved tremendously, we still need to go back to the basics of essential things like reintegrating daily devotionals/prayers in schools, praying before each meal, and knowing when to go up on the mountain to pray. We fail to see that the Biblical principles that we neglect because they may seem insignificant or old-fashioned, are the very ones that have repercussions in our lives, our children’s and our children’s children. There is a question that is never too old to ask, “What did or what would Jesus do?”

Jesus is our role model; He is our formula so to speak. For example, I know nothing about math but if I remember correctly, there was always a formula to help solve these mathematical problems. No wonder I would hold on to those formulas for dear life. At times when taking an exam, I would write out the formula just as it is; a way of saying to my teacher that I have no clue how to solve these math problems. So, it is the same concept spiritually.

I remember there was a time when I would worry about every single bite I took. The lesson I’ve learned from this was that the more I worried, the sicker I got because I depended on the wrong source. Thus, my sickness came from anxiety rather than the food itself. Also, I remember there was a time when I was on food stamps, I ate noodle soups three times a day for a whole month straight because that’s what I could afford at that time. Each time I made the noodle soup; I would make it very spicy so I wouldn’t get tired of it until the spiciness of it got me sick.

Jesus did not worry, but He blessed the food before He ate it. If Jesus gave thanks and asked His Father to bless the food, and God did it for Him, what makes us think if we give God thanks and ask Him to bless our food, He would not do the same even more, especially now? Does God show favoritism? Has God changed or have we changed?

Jesus asked His disciples in Matthew 6: 27: “Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” We cannot add even a second to our lives by worrying. The truth is whenever we are so worried about anything in life, we are telling God that the problem is bigger than Him; in other words, He can’t handle it because He is not God enough.

Do people get sick? Absolutely! Let us not forget that we are living in a decaying world.

Can God use doctors and nurses to heal people? Absolutely!

Is God limited by doctors and supermarkets to do what He wants? Absolutely, not!

Is God asking us to live carelessly health-wise? Absolutely, not!

Is God unaware of what is happening in the food industry? Absolutely, not!

The truth is God sees everything. He sees the person who can afford all his groceries at Whole Foods and the single mother on food stamps, with seven kids and no car, who can only afford Dollar General. None of these locations is a guarantee! It is all about which of these two people will acknowledge their true Source and ask God to bless their meals.

Therefore, the best recommendation is to be mindful, do the best you can, don’t panic, and most importantly know who your Source is. In other words, know who sustains you, and believe in the power of His might. Do not just take the fear the world throws at you, but pray over your groceries, meals, children, spouses, etc.

Another recommendation is to cling to God’s unwavering Word regarding your health. Select a verse(s) from the Scripture about healing and trust God for your healing with it. Hold tight to that verse(s) no matter what you see and what you hear as if your life depends on it because it does. Know and trust that God is your Sustainer and Healer because He is!

Jesus is rooting for you more than you can imagine!

SCRIPTURES

“He (Jesus) answered, ‘Don’t you know what I am talking by now? You surely know that the food you put into your mouth cannot make you unclean. It doesn’t go into your heart, but into your stomach, and then out of your body. By saying this, Jesus meant that all foods were fit to eat. Then Jesus said: what comes from your heart is what makes you unclean. Out of your heart come evil thoughts, vulgar deeds, stealing, murder, unfaithfulness in marriage, greed, meanness, deceit, indecency, envy, insults, pride, and foolishness. All of these come from your heart, and they are what makes you unfit to worship God.’” Mark 7:18-23

“And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents, and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; They shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.” Mark 16: 17-18
