In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was without form and void, and the Bible says the darkness was over the face of the deep, but it did not say that God created it. According to the Bible, darkness was the only thing mentioned over the face of the deep. Then the Bible said that God said let there be light and there was light, and He separated the light from the darkness. And God called the light “day” and the darkness “night.” (Genesis 1:1-5) God wanted us to be clear of the distinction between light/day and darkness/night. For example, in Scripture, Jesus said “I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work” (John 9:4). He also said, “But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went his way” (Matthew 13:25). There is always this negative connotation associated with the night or darkness. Jesus said that He is “The Bright and Morning Star” (Revelation 22:16). The Bible talks about the Kingdom of Light and warns us about the Kingdom of Darkness. For example, in 1 Peter 2: 9 “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light”, and this is how we know that there are two kingdoms: the Kingdom of Light representing God and the Kingdom of darkness representing Lucifer/Satan. These two kingdoms are operating 24/7 and 7 days a week through human beings and their manifestations impact the world whether we are aware of it or not: one in a positive way and the other in a negative way.
As crazy as it may sound there are some similarities between both kingdoms. For example, both kingdoms have a ruler, they both want to invade the earth with their influence, they are both after a human’s heart/soul, and are both operating from an invisible realm.
Though they have some similarities, they are very opposite from each other, their differences are equally important to know, and I will mention a few of their differences.
For instance, the kingdom of darkness also known as the kingdom of Satan is ruling by bluff and his kingdom is built on wicked lies, manipulation, and treachery whereas the kingdom of light known as the kingdom of God is built on truth because God is truth, and He is the Creator of all things. Satan’s kingdom leads to eternal death through sin whereas the kingdom of God leads to eternal life through Jesus Christ. The kingdom of darkness promotes violence, hatred, sadness, fear, and the like while the kingdom of light promotes peace, joy, love, goodness, and the like. Satan wants us to be barren, insecure, oppressed, suppressed, depressed, and even contemplating suicidal thoughts, but God wants us to be productive, liberated from captivity, bold and confident. Satan wants us to stay in a poverty mindset, but God wants us to have a mindset of abundance. Satan wants to kill steal and destroy everything that belongs to us such as our kids, marriage, finances, sanity, health, peace, joy, etc., but God wants to redeem and restore everything that He has given us. Our adversary wants us to self-destruct and cause pain in the lives of our loved ones when God wants us to practice self-care, forgiveness, and love one another. Satan wants to use our circumstances to keep us in physical, mental, and emotional distress whereas God wants to prevent us from a mental breakdown, He wants to strengthen us and deliver us from our circumstances. Satan wants us to have a sin-sick soul and live a life of shame and guilt, but God wants us to have a healthy soul, He wants to forgive us of our sins and set us free from guilt and shame.
It should have been obvious for us to see which kingdom is in our best interest, yet it can be very difficult to discern it because Satan is very cunning in his ways, and he’s been bluffing since the beginning through lies and schemes. That’s why the Bible tells us to be wise as a serpent and harmless as a dove (Matthew 10:16) and to be alert and of sober of mind because the enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8). Each day we wake up, we must decide which kingdom we will serve because both kingdoms operate daily whether we realize it or not, and it is up to us to decide which one we will allow impacting our lives and subsequently the world.
SCRIPTURES
“But you, brethren are not in darkness so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. Therefore, let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night. But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation. For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Thessalonians 5: 4-9
“This is the message that we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all” 1 John 1:5
