There is nothing more aggravating than working with a team that is not on the same page as you. Whether someone is the CEO of a company or the co-manager of a business, if the team is not working toward the same goals, there will be confusion and chaos. Such issues can hinder the company’s growth if they are unresolved. Nonetheless, the same applies if the team works toward the same goals. This promotes an atmosphere of order, unity, clarity, and growth.
The Church represents Christ’s business on earth. As the CEO expects the team to have the business plans and goals in mind, so does Christ, and He will come back one day for His investments.
There are several reasons why Jesus is coming back for His people, the Church.
I will consider four reasons for this topic. First, I will consider Matthew 28:18-20. Second, consideration will be given to the price that He paid for His authority. Third, I will examine the relationship between Jesus and His word. Lastly, I will consider the re-establishment of Christ’s Kingdom on earth.
MATTHEW 28:18-20
In Matthew 28:18-20, after Jesus had risen from the dead, He set up an appointment with His disciples on a mountain, and He said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.”
This statement is the first thing Jesus told His disciples before He gave them the Great Commission. And that is, “Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” And teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
It was important for Jesus to make the first statement before He told them about the
Great Commission. The disciples needed to know that the One who gave them the Great Commission has all authority. His authority is not limited to heaven. He also has all authority
here on earth. Therefore, this statement also reveals that the Great Commission was not only
coming from a place of authority but also from a mission already in motion. That is why it is
called a “Co-mission”, which also means a shared mission.
No wonder Jesus said things like “Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” Matthew 16:19.
and also things like “I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; Nothing will harm you.” Luke 10:19
Which also means that Christ is coming back for a people who possess His authority.
THE SECOND REASON IS THE COST OF HIS AUTHORITY
It is easy to think that since Jesus is God, He shouldn’t need to pay any price, especially to gain authority, right? However, in John 12:49, Jesus said, “I don’t speak on My own authority. The Father who sent Me has commanded Me what to say and how to say it.” Therefore, for Jesus to sit at His Father’s right hand, for His Name to be exalted above every other name, and for Him to own the title of ‘The Messiah’, Jesus had to suffer the shame of the cross.
I have discovered that what it cost Jesus to receive His authority cannot be compared to what it costs us to operate under His authority. Therefore, suffering for His name’s sake is a privilege. This implies that Christ is coming back for a people who will also participate in His suffering.
THE THIRD REASON IS “JESUS AND HIS UNFAILING WORD”
In Revelation 3:14, Jesus is referred to as the Faithful and True Witness. Jesus’ life story
has proven that He is the Faithful One even in the face of death.
There are many times in the Bible when Jesus said, ‘Verily, verily I say unto you,’ to emphasize the certainty of His word. In Mark 13:31, Jesus said, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.” Here, Jesus makes it clear that He and His Word are one. After all, Scripture says in John 1:14, “The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.”
Also, the same Jesus who predicted His death and resurrection in Luke 9:22 predicted His return and how His people need to prepare for His return in Luke 12:35-48. Therefore, because Jesus is true to His Word, He is coming back for a people who are also true to His Word.
FINALLY, JESUS IS COMING BACK FOR HIS PEOPLE, THE CHURCH, BECAUSE HE HAS TO RE-ESTABLISH HIS KINGDOM ON EARTH
We’ve learned that God’s mission didn’t start with us; we are partnering with Him in His work.
Also, we’ve learned that when God created everything, all that He had made was very good.
In Genesis 1:26-28, He told man to rule the earth. However, humanity lost perfection after the fall of Adam and Eve in Genesis Chapter 3. So, Scripture says that the Last Adam, Jesus Christ, came to this world in the flesh to restore the dominion that the first Adam had lost.
Scripture also tells us that God is still at work. That’s why believers must not fear even when faced with conflicts within the Church.
Let’s not forget that Jesus sits at the right side of His Father, praying for us. This explains why Jesus gave His disciples the Great Commission before He ascended to heaven. Also, He told them that the gates of Hades will not overcome His Church in Matthew 16:18. Therefore, Jesus is coming back for a people who understand the “Co-mission” and the end goal of His mission: God’s ultimate victory and glory here on earth.
In conclusion, Jesus is coming back for His people, the Church, because of His authority, the price He paid for it, His Word cannot fail, and because He must re-establish His everlasting Kingdom on earth.
Jesus is coming back for a Chosen People, a Royal Priesthood, and a Holy Nation. They are God’s Special Possession.
When Jesus comes back for His people, the Church, He will repay each person according to what they have done Revelation 22:12.
Though there is uncertainty regarding the timing of the Lord’s return, there is enough certainty to promote hope. The uncertainty should promote holiness in the lives of His People.
May God bless you!
