We know God to be an Omnipotent God meaning He is all-powerful, an Omniscient God meaning He is all-knowing, and an Omnipresent meaning He is everywhere. We also know God to be the God of love. So why doesn’t He respond to us after each prayer and why does He remain silent in our most difficult moments sometimes?
We tend to think that God remains silent because He is mad at us, or not concerned about us. However, the more I learn about God and the more He reveals Himself to me, the more I realize His love can also be expressed through His silence. There are many reasons why we experience God’s silence. So, I will mention a few of them (Part 1) and share my testimony about God’s silence. (Part 2)
God’s patience is revealed through His silence. For example, we can be in a situation where we don’t think we can make it the next day without God’s immediate intervention when it doesn’t seem to budge Him because God knows when a situation is purposeful in our lives and when to intervene.
God’s silence can also be a form of protection. Sometimes knowing too much too soon could cause more harm than good and not being in the right head or heart space can make it difficult to hear and receive from God. So, we may even get mad at God, I know I’m guilty of that, but God, as a loving Father, would rather ignore our temper tantrums to preserve our lives and to prevent us from doing something that we will regret later.
God’s silence can help us exercise our faith and perseverance. It would be much easier if God only had yes or no answers. When He remains silent, I don’t know what to do and have no idea what He is up to, but that’s exactly where faith is needed. And sometimes, God wants to see how badly we want what we are praying for.
God’s silence can also mean that He is busy. Wait a minute! I already know what you are thinking, but I mean a good busy. God is busy on our behalf and will always answer our prayers. He may not answer them the way we want Him to and when we want Him to, but He is always working on all things for our good. The Holy Spirit wants us to wait on Him and depend on Him totally because the answers will come.
And finally, God’s silence also reveals His Sovereignty. God is not a genie in a bottle for emergency purposes. God doesn’t have to respond to us, nor does He have to move according to our timetable. God communicates with us simply because He loves and wants us. That’s why building a relationship with God is vital, and just like any other relationship, it takes time to develop a relationship with God.
God knows us better than we know ourselves. He knows the best time to approach us in each season of our lives. God’s silence is deep and loud. Though we often see His silence as a lack of love or concern for our needs, it is just the opposite that’s why it is wise not to lean on our understanding but to trust Him with all our hearts; knowing that He will make our paths straight.
