WHY IS HEALING NECESSARY BEFORE BLESSINGS

As mere humans, we all have experienced moments in life when we wish we could have done things differently. And as we get older, we realize that many of the things we placed much emphasis on were trivial, and the things we thought were insignificant are actually essential for our growth.  I have also realized that some words spoken over our lives and some trauma that we’ve experienced have contributed to the way we show up. We’ve developed negative and destructive behaviors we deem to be normal. More often than not, we pick up these bad habits or negative character traits along the way, intentionally or unintentionally. Many of these character traits have been passed down to us from family members. I believe all of us, especially parents, need to consider that when we talk about legacy, it goes both ways. Whether it is wealth or habits, and whether it is good or bad, if it is passed down from one generation to the next, it is a legacy. Therefore, we can say that there is such a thing as an anger or a bitterness legacy. So, when we talk about a generational curse, we are referring to ongoing sinful behavior/habits within a family that is passed down to future generations.

And this is where it can get confusing. When we pray to God for a blessing, sometimes it feels as if God either completely dismissed our request or maybe the prayer didn’t reach Him.

I have concluded that it is not because God doesn’t want to bless us, but because He has to build the right foundation first so that the blessing can last. For instance, after the fall of Adam and Eve, God clothed them and said something very alarming right before He banished man from the Garden of Eden. And the Lord God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat and live forever.” (Genesis 3:22). Let’s remember that God created everything in six days and said that everything was good. And based on this verse, there are two things we can say that God did not want to happen. God wanted us to know good, but He didn’t want us to know evil, even though He Himself knew it existed. Second, God didn’t want us to eat from the tree of life after we became knowledgeable about evil; otherwise, we would have lived in sin forever. It takes a generous God to bless His people with a tree that will cause them to live forever. And because God is generous, He will not bless us while we live in wickedness; in other words, God will not bless a mess.  The blessing has to last forever, which also means that it must be passed down to future generations. Hence, God will always uproot things and build the right foundation before He blesses His people. God is faithful, so He is not so concerned about you getting the blessing as He is about you adhering to the uprooting and transforming process, because that’s usually what causes the long wait. We must be reminded that all these ungodly habits we’ve been exposed to from family members and surroundings prevent us from receiving the blessings that are rightfully ours. And I wish I could tell you that generational curses can be eradicated overnight, but this is far from the truth. This is something that requires God from the beginning to the end. You cannot do this outside of God because there is much more to this than you think. It will not take forever, but it won’t be overnight. I remember impatiently waiting on God for a blessing. I kept looking at my watch, and God had to remind me that “An inheritance claimed too soon will not be blessed at the end.” Proverbs 20:21. This verse helped me through the waiting season because I know that some inner work needs to be done first. Besides, I would much rather wait for my inheritance than receive an inheritance that is not blessed. Have you ever considered why certain blessings you received in your life are blessings that your mother or your grandmother used to pray for? And that is because they might have prayed about it, but might not have had the same courage, resilience, tenacity, and determination to allow the transformation to take place in their lives. You can’t just wake up one morning without God’s help and say I’m about to break that curse. The evil forces in the heavenly places will not easily release territories, and you need God to fight for you and to show you the part to play in collaborating with Him for your deliverance and that of your loved ones.

The beauty of being healed is that it not only benefits you but also your children and your children’s children. Your children’s lives may not be perfect because they, too, live in a broken world, but you will save them from going through much unnecessary trouble by partnering with God. Exodus 20:6 says that God will show love to a thousand generations of those who love Him and keep His commandments.

Just like we develop destructive habits based on what was modeled before us, our children will do the same if they do not experience anything different. When God requires of us a life of righteousness, it is not because He wants to make our lives like hell. He removes all ungodly behaviors/habits, and He will remove those who negatively influence us, so that we can receive His blessings. Thus, we must adhere to the process of receiving His blessings, no matter what it entails and however painful it may be.

The thing is, there is no addiction, no sexual sin, no generational curse that God cannot set you free from. The big question is “Do you want to be free?” or another question is “Do you want your loved ones to develop the same bad habits or to suffer from the same things you’ve suffered from?” and if you really want to be free, your actions will prove it. For example, if the Holy Spirit is telling you to stop watching porn, then delete the App from your phone and stop staying up late at night in front of the TV. Learn to work with the Holy Spirit because one thing about the Holy Spirit is that He will convict you. You will feel that uneasiness creeping in, and that’s your cue. Also, ask God to change your appetite for the thing (s) that you struggle with. There is no sin or ungodly behavior strong enough that God cannot pull you out of. The only one who can stop your deliverance is you. You have to be determined; otherwise, you will go right back to it. But when you remember that if God is for you, no one can be against you (Romans 8:31), then you know with God on your side, you can resist the devil because victory is already yours.

And it is not only for sins, like sexual immorality, murder, and idolatry, but also sins like bitterness, jealousy, envy, mismanaged anger, etc. All of these things will hinder your growth and blessings. There are so many benefits that we can reap when we allow God to heal us, not just physically, but in all other areas of our lives that are broken. And when the job is done, you will certainly see that it was worth it, and you will feel the need to tell others about God’s transformative power just like I’m doing now. After all, change is not our enemy as we may think. So, don’t be afraid to welcome it! And remember, “It is not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit, says the Lord Almighty” Zechariah 4:6.

Be the change!❤️❤️
